In the past Severn’s tech team has been mostly students who had been involved with prior productions but this year with the help of Mr. Derbyshire we are able to have a tech team that includes all of the properties of the show which include set design, lighting, and audio. I asked Mr. Derbyshire some questions about the future of the tech team, more specifically what the students can learn from their time with the team. Mr. Derbyshire wants students to learn the use of basic tools and power tools, such as screwdrivers and circular saws. He also wants to teach students the basics of building wooden structures. Once you have learned these skills the next set of skills is with using the lights and audio. Mr. Derbyshire is looking to expand the tech program in many ways, so if you are looking for something to add to your resume or you happen to be interested in building and designing then consider joining the tech team.
