Do you love animals and shopping at the mall? Well now you can do both! The SPCA’s new adoption center is a cute storefront located in the Westfield Annapolis Mall where you can adopt rabbits, cats, kittens, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, turtles, and more! Paws at the Mall is located where Banana Republic used to be and is open everyday from 11am to 5pm.
As more and more stores at the Annapolis are forced to close with the decrease in in-store retail, Paws at the Mall will hopefully allow these animals to be adopted into good homes and also bring more people into the mall. Over the years, many stores have closed, moved, and been replaced. The increase in popularity of online shopping has significantly reduced in-person shopping and all retail has felt the effects, from locally owned small businesses to large department stores.
In an interview with WBAL TV11, Kelly Brown, President of the SPCA of Anne Arundel County said, “There are so many great things that are happening. Obviously, we’re adopting so many more animals, which creates space for us to pull other animals from high-kill shelters,” Paws at the Mall is helping rescued animals get to the forever homes they deserve.
Steven Stavropoulos, general manager of Westfield Annapolis Mall, says that Paws at the Mall is bringing in more people than Banana Republic ever did. Paws at the Mall is benefitting animals in need and helping the mall maintain consistent traffic. The merchandise for purchase in Paws at the Mall is mostly donated which helps the nonprofit raise money for the shelter.
The charming storefront definitely draws attention and brings in visitors. Kelly Brown emphasizes that the experience of just walking into Paws at the Mall is an important part for its visitors. There is also a pastry case full of realistic animal treats for purchase. People of all ages can enjoy this not only beneficial but adorable addition to the Annapolis Mall!
