An introduction from Dr. N:
I grew up in Miami, FL, where I fell in love with history thanks to the stories my elderly next door neighbors would tell me about coming of age during World War II and the Cold War. After finishing high school, I attended undergrad at the University of Chicago. From Chicago, I moved to Philadelphia where I just completed my Ph.D. in Russian history at the University of Pennsylvania. While I love digging in archives and uncovering fascinating new finds, my immediate impulse upon making such discoveries is to immediately share them with others. I am thus especially thrilled to be here at Severn teaching world history.
Ms. Jones se dice:
Hola, Severn School! My name is Camille Jones. I was born and raised in the DC area; I grew up in southern Maryland, went to high school in northern Virginia, and graduated from Morgan State University just this past spring. This year I’ll be teaching Spanish I and II, and serving as one of the faculty sponsors for Multicultural Alliance. Although this is my first year in education, Severn is very similar to the high school I went to, and I look forward to getting to know the students and the school better as the year goes on, and making a positive impact on the Severn community!
Mrs. Brandler says:
I’m really excited to be a new teacher at Severn this year! I grew up in the DC/Maryland area; I was born in DC and grew up in Montgomery County. I went to UMD for undergrad (go Terps!). I got my master’s degree from Loyola University in educational technology, and this is my 11th year teaching. I’m teaching AP Calculus (BC and AB) as well as Geometry. I’m also involved in the Umbrella Club and am hoping to get involved with the a cappella group because I love to sing! I actually met my husband singing in a DC-based group called VoxPop, which I’m still a part of today. I have a two-year son named Luke, and also two dogs named Hannah and Henry.
Ms. Johnson wants you to know:
Hi Severn Family! This is my first year at Severn and my 8th year as an English Teacher. Over the past 8 years, I have taught in Baltimore City, Anne Arundel County, and D.C. Public Schools. I have had lasting relationships with my students and I look forward to forming relationships within the Severn community. Before becoming a teacher, I graduated from Hampton University and then went on to graduate studies at The University of North Carolina Greensboro. I recently had a baby May 4, 2020 and her name is Cadence Faith Johnson. Just a year before that, I got married and our wedding was published in Essence Bridal Bliss! This is a big year for my family as we welcomed a new baby, I am joining the Seven family, and my husband got a new job with Border Protection. I hope that this brief introduction has allowed you to get to know me a little more, and even if I do not have you as a student, feel free to drop by just to say hello. My door is always open!
