Admirals Cross Country 2018
By David Seidl '19
Severn Cross Country was one of the biggest surprises of the 2017 fall athletic season. The boys’ team improved dramatically, from 2-6 and an eighth-place finish in the MIAA B-conference (2016), to 13-1 and second place in the conference (2017). The girls’ team also improved, from 2-6-1 and a seventh-place finish in the IAAM B-conference championship, to 5-7 and a fifth-place finish in the championship. However, despite these improvements, both the boys’ and girls’ teams look to go even further in this fall 2019 season.
The boys’ team is led by senior captains David Seidl, Evan Gore, Tate Taczak, and Jimmy Leroux. These Admirals are off to a hot start: 5-0 (as of October 1), including a win against A-conference rival Archbishop Spalding. Junior Robbie Dubinski looks to repeat his personal championship, as he finished first out of all B-conference runners in the 2017-2018 Championships (which was ninth place out of all runners, including A-conference). Senior Tate Taczak also looks to continue his success from one year ago, which was a third-place finish out of all B-Conference runners in the 2017-2018 championships. The boys’ Cross Country runners, a team full of seniors, are looking to cement this season in the record books with a championship. After closely finishing second last year, the boys all train with hopes of avenging their second-place finish from last year.
The girls’ team is led by senior captains Trina Reinhart, Caroline Krall, and Emily Shaener. The Severn girls are also experiencing early season success, as they are currently 5-3. All-IAAM runner Caroline Krall looks to continue her personal success, as she finished sixth in the B-Conference championships last year. Fellow captain Trina Reinhart looks to have a successful senior season as well.
As well as being extremely competitive in in-conference races, the Severn Cross Country team also prides itself in being the only high school in the area to run a half-marathon every October. Jimmy Leroux and Trina Reinhart are training to run the full 26.2 mile marathon on the same day. Come cheer us on in Baltimore!
